Five people were killed and eight others injured after a truck rammed into multiple motorcycles on an overbridge in Odisha. The accident occurred when the truck allegedly lost control and ploughed into two-wheelers travelling on the bridge, triggering panic and chaos at the site.
According to initial information, several motorcyclists were on the overbridge when the speeding truck hit them from behind. The impact was severe, throwing riders off their vehicles and causing extensive damage. Five people died on the spot due to grievous injuries sustained in the collision. Eight others were injured in the incident, some of them critically. Local residents rushed to the spot and informed the police, following which the injured were shifted to nearby hospitals for treatment. Traffic movement on the overbridge was disrupted for a considerable period as rescue and clearance operations were carried out.
Police reached the scene soon after the accident and detained the truck driver. A case has been registered, and an investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the crash, including whether overspeeding or negligence was involved.
